What's The Price of Your Integrity?

So readers, what's the price of your integrity? I hope it's much higher than $10,000.

That's how much Franklin County Board of Elections Director Matthew Damschroeder sold his for on January 9, 2004. On the first day Franklin County opened bids for voter-registration software, Damschroeder accepted a check on behalf of the Franklin County Republican Party from Pasquale "Pat" Gallinda, a contractor with Diebold Election Systems.

"I’m here to give you $10,000," the elections director recalls Gallina saying. "Who do I make it payable to?"

"Well, you’re certainly not going to make it out to me," Damschroder says he told Gallina. "But I’m sure the Franklin County Republican Party would appreciate a donation."
